In 2009 „Turbine“, the only Schwarzkopf shuttle loop coaster in Europe, was closed at Walibi Belgium. Opened in the early 1980′s as „Sirocco“ the coaster made it 1998 into the local media when a train stopped at the top of the looping and people had to be evacuated. Although there were no injuries the park decided to rename the rollercoaster and to build a hall hiding the looping.
„Turbine“ is so special because of its acceleration by a big flywheel catapulting the train up to 85 km/h causing big noise and extensive maintenance. In 2009 Walibi wanted to get rid off the coaster. Rumors say that there was a buyer for „Turbine“ and that it should have been replaced by a new spinning coaster, but all of this never happened.
In 2013 Walibi Belgium will reopen „Turbine“, possibly with onboard sound and a new hall hiding the entire coaster with multimedia effects with a focus on the new Walibi music brand starring the bands „The Skunx“ and „W.A.B.“.
